How to Enter

It's simple! From October 2016 to December 2016, participating minor hockey association's coaches or managers can submit one story per month per team to enter the Best Western Fun On The Road Contest. Attach a photo to enhance your entry!

Official Contest Rules & Regulations

1) Contest highlights: Youth minor league hockey teams can enter this contest to win Best Western® Travel Cards in the amount of CAD $1,000 for youth minor league hockey team travel. There will be three (3) drawings according to the monthly drawing schedule set out below. There will be six (6) winners per drawing, one from each of the following regions:

(each hereinafter defined as a "Region" or collectively the "Regions")

2) Contest Timing: The Best Western "Fun on the Road" Sweepstakes (the "Contest") begins at 12:00 am Eastern Standard Time ("EST") on October 1, 2016 and ends at 11:59 pm EST on December 31, 2016 (the "Contest Period").

3) Eligibility: The Contest is open only to residents of Canada, who are coaches or managers of a registered youth minor league hockey team, and 18 years of age or older as of the date of entry ("Eligible Participant"). Employees of Best Western International, Inc. (the "Sponsor"), Thom Partners, CF&R Services Inc. and their respective parents, subsidiaries, divisions, affiliates, suppliers, distributors and advertising, promotional and judging agencies and their immediate family members (spouses, parents, children, and siblings and their spouses) and household members of each (whether related or not), are not eligible to participate or win. Void where prohibited by law. All applicable municipal, provincial and local laws and regulations apply.

4) How to Enter the Contest: There is NO PURCHASE NECESSARY to participate in the Contest. A purchase will not increase your chances of winning. During the Contest Period, Eligible Participants may enter the Contest by visiting the Contest website at www.bwfunontheroad.com and following the instructions to complete all required fields of the on-screen registration form. This will include completing one (1) of the following to complete your entry: 1. uploading one (1) photo of your youth minor league hockey team ("Photo") and a caption, in 100 words or less, explaining how you and your team have "fun on the road" OR 2. writing an essay of 500 words or less explaining how you and your youth minor league hockey team have "fun on the road." Entrants will be given an "opt in" option to receive contest specific material from the contest sponsor. Opting in does not increase your chances of winning. Each such submission during the applicable Monthly Periods (described in the chart below) shall qualify as one (1) entry into each respective participating Regions' monthly drawing for prizes ("Entry"). Entries will not be judged; all winners will be chosen at random. If you choose to submit a Photo to enter, the photo must be a team photo and should include at least three (3) members of the team (but need not be the complete team), in order to be eligible. Photos of individuals will not be accepted and are not eligible to be entered in the Contest. Limit of one (1) Entry per eligible Participant/ youth minor league hockey team, per Monthly Entry Period. All Entries must be received according to the Monthly Entry Period dates in the Entry Chart below to be eligible for each monthly random drawing.

For purposes of this Contest, the applicable Monthly Entry Periods begin at 12:00 am EST and end at 11:59 pm EST. Entries will not carry forward for subsequent Monthly Entry Period Drawings, if any. Any Entry deemed inappropriate or unsuitable, in Sponsor's sole discretion, will be disqualified. Any Entry or portion thereof that is, in the Sponsor's sole discretion, obscene, profane, lewd, defamatory, contains any proper names, third party materials, or otherwise violates or infringes (or may infringe) any copyright, trademark or logo or is otherwise objectionable, will disqualify the entrant. Entry must be in keeping with the Sponsor's image and may not be offensive, as determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion. By submitting an Entry, you hereby grant the Sponsor, its affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, licensees, and legal representatives the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to use, reproduce, edit, market, store, distribute, have distributed, publicly and privately display, communicate, publicly and privately perform, transmit, have transmitted, create derivative works based upon, and promote the Entry (as such may be edited and modified by the Sponsor in its discretion) for editorial, commercial, promotional and all other purposes (including posting on any websites).

Use of unauthorized computer programs and other automatic means to enter the Contest is prohibited and will result in disqualification. Normal Internet access and usage charges imposed by your online service may apply and are the entrant's sole responsibility.

Submission Requirements:

The following guidelines set by the Sponsor must be followed for each Entry in order to be considered:

  • Entry must be in English or French.
  • Entrant must be the coach or manager of any youth minor league hockey team depicted in the Entry
  • Coach or manager assumes responsibility for obtaining permission from all youth minor league hockey team members depicted in Photo and their parent/legal guardians prior to submitting Photo. Proof of permission may be necessary prior to awarding of prize.
  • Entry may not have content where there is a result in any injury or bodily harm, or you are engaging in activity where there is a likelihood of injury or bodily harm.
  • Entry must be your sole original work and may not have been submitted previously in a sweepstakes or contest of any kind or previously exhibited or displayed publicly (i.e., disclosed beyond your immediate circle of friends and family) through any means.
  • You must own all rights in the Entry and have the right to grant Sponsor a license to use the Entry (including any material embodied in the Entry).
  • Any Entry deemed inappropriate or unsuitable, in Sponsor's sole discretion, will be rejected during the screening process. Entry must not contain material that is inappropriate, indecent (including but not limited to nudity or pornography), profane, obscene, hateful, tortious, defamatory, slanderous or libelous (including words or symbols that are widely considered offensive to individuals of a certain race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic group). Entry must be suitable for a family/general audience.
  • Entry must not contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.
  • Entry must not contain criminal or tortious activity, including but not limited to, child pornography, fraud, trafficking of obscene material, drug dealing, drug use, or gambling. Entry must not contain material that is unlawful, in violation of or contrary to any applicable local, state, federal, or international laws and regulations.
  • The Entry cannot defame, misrepresent or contain disparaging remarks about Sponsor, Contest Entities (as defined below) or their products or other people, products or companies.
  • Entry must not feature beer, distilled spirits (i.e., hard liquor, malt beverages), tobacco products (including cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, chewing tobacco and snuff), fireworks, firearms and ammunitions, prescription drugs, illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, nutritional supplements, lotteries, gambling or any activities that may appear unsafe or dangerous, or any particular political agenda or message.
  • Entry must not contain content that is known by you to be false, inaccurate or misleading.
  • Entry must not violate or infringe any third-party copyright, trademark, trade dress, logos (excluding Sponsor logos), or other proprietary right of any entity or person (living or deceased), including, but not limited to rights of privacy, publicity or portrayal in a false light.
  • Entry must not make reference to any commercial/corporate advertising, including but not limited to corporate logos, brand names (other than Sponsor's brand names), slogans, political, or religious statements, or be otherwise objectionable.
  • Clothing worn in the Entry should not prominently feature any visible logos, drawings, cartoons, phrases, trademarks or other third-party materials.
  • Entry must not include any representation or likeness of celebrities, athletes, musicians, or any other public or private figure (living or dead unless you have express permission), any commercial solicitation or promotional materials or last name, address, phone number, or URL address.
  • Entrants and all submitted Entries must be in keeping with the image or message of the Sponsor and the Sponsor's brand as determined by the Sponsor, in its sole discretion, or Entry will be disqualified from the Contest. The Entry must not disparage persons or organizations associated with the Sponsor.
  • Entrants and all submitted Entries may not reference any other company or entity, Sponsor's competitors or their products.
  • The Entry cannot violate any law or otherwise be inappropriate; all as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion.

By entering, each entrant understands that his/her Entry, in its entirety or any portion thereof, may, in the Sponsor's sole and absolute discretion, be posted on the Sponsor's website or used in any other Sponsor-selected media without notification or compensation, if the entrant is chosen as a Winner. Entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. The Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, corrupted, incomplete or damaged Entries. Proof of submission is not proof of receipt by the Sponsor. Automated, script, macro or robotic, programmed, or any other automated means will disqualify any Entry.

5) Prizes: Each month there will be a drawing (discussed in the next paragraph) and a winner will be selected in each region. As noted above, there are six regions.

As also noted above, there will be three Monthly Entry Periods. There will, therefore, be a total of eighteen (18) prize winners (six (6) winners [one from each region] per month and three (3) drawings [based on the Monthly Entry Periods]). Winners will receive will receive CAD $1,000 in Best Western Promotional Travel Cards, awarded in the form of 20 CAD $50 Gift Cards, to be used for youth minor league hockey team travel.

No transfer, substitution or cash equivalent permitted by a winner. The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to substitute the Prize with one of comparable or greater value. Gift Cards must be used in accordance with the terms and conditions governing them. Certain restrictions and blackout dates may apply. Gift Card restrictions apply. Gift Cards must be used within twelve (12) months from the date of issue and will be awarded electronically via email. The Sponsor reserves the right to remove any guest from its hotel if the guest(s) is/are being disruptive or inappropriate, in the Sponsor's sole discretion.

6) Draws: There will be draws following each of the three (3) Monthly Periods from among all the Entries received in each Region during the applicable Monthly Period, with one (1) winner randomly selected from each Region. Draws will be made by an independent judging organization in Pickering, Ontario on the applicable draw date at 10:00 a.m. EST, from all eligible Entries received. Odds of winning are dependent upon the number of eligible Entries received for each Region by the end of each Monthly Period referenced in paragraph 3during the Contest Period. Prizes will be awarded. Limit one (1) Prize per youth minor league hockey team.

7) General Rules: By participating in the Contest, entrants agree to be bound by the Contest Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor. Potential winners will be contacted via email and will be required to complete and return a Declaration of Compliance and answer unaided, a time-limited arithmetic skill-testing question as a condition of receiving a Prize, within five (5) days of notification attempt or the Prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner may be selected. Return of Prize or Prize notification will result in disqualification and an alternate may be selected. In the event there is a discrepancy or inconsistency between disclosures or other statements contained in any Contest materials and the Contest Rules, these Contest Rules shall prevail, govern and control. Entries become the property of the Sponsor. The Sponsor and its designees shall have the unrestricted and non-exclusive right to edit, adapt, publish, copy, display, perform, broadcast, modify, and otherwise use any or all Entry materials, alone or in combination with other material including but not limited to essays and/or photos in any and all media, whether now known or later discovered, in perpetuity, without restriction of any kind whatsoever, without further compensation to the entrant or anyone else. Entry constitutes permission for the Sponsor and its designees to use winner's name, winner's team name, biographical information, Entry, Photo and/or likeness in any and all media, now or hereafter devised, worldwide, in perpetuity, for internal, advertising, Contest and other purposes without additional compensation, notification or permission, unless prohibited by law. Potential winners may be required to assign all rights in entry to Sponsor without additional compensation. The Sponsor and its agencies are not responsible for technical, hardware, software or telephone malfunctions of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, incomplete, inaccurate, garbled or delayed electronic communications caused by the user or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest or by any human error which may occur in the processing of the Entries in the Contest or for any liability for damage to any computer system resulting from participation in, accessing or downloading information in connection with the Contest. In the event of a dispute as to any Entry, the authorized e-mail account holder of the account used to register will be deemed to be the entrant. The authorized account holder is deemed the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, service provider, or other online organization that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. The winner may be required to show proof of being the authorized account holder of the account associated with the Entry. Proof of entering information does not constitute proof of delivery or receipt of such information. The Sponsor is not responsible for the failure of any email or Entry to be received by the Sponsor on account of technical problems or congestion on the Internet or at any website. The Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual that tampers or attempts to tamper with the Entry process or the operation of the Contest; violates the Contest Rules; or acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. Any attempt by any person to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, the Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. The Sponsor's failure to enforce any term of these Contest Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. If, for any reason, the Contests is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of the Sponsor which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, then the Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel the Contest and select the winners in random drawings per Region from among all eligible Entries received by the end of each month prior to cancellation. By participating in the Contest, the entrant agrees that the Sponsor, their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, agents, representatives, retailers, and advertising and Contest agencies, and all of their respective shareholders, officers, directors, employees, members, representatives, agents, successors and assigns (collectively "Contest Entities") will have no liability whatsoever for, and will be held harmless by entrant for any liability for any bodily injury, loss, cost or damages of any kind to persons, including death and property, damages sustained due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from Entry creation, the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any Prize or parts thereof, if applicable, or participation in the Contest or in any related activity. Winner assumes all liability for any guests during hotel stay when using Prize. By entering the Contest, you hereby represent and warrant that you have read these Contest Rules and are fully familiar with the contents.

8) Quebec Residents: Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (the "Régie") for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a Prize may be submitted to the Régie only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
